Birthday treats....

Today I've decided to banish all guilt for my lack of motivation lately. I have a few half finished sewing projects on the go, a half dug flower bed, and no inclination to finish either... and because it's my BIRTHDAY, I'm going to put my feet up and read a book instead, or a few blogs. Anyway, I have reason for my lack of progress. My sister married a week ago, it was a beautiful day, I just love weddings and can't wait to see her photos. Poppet hasn't been too well, so we're all a bit sleep deprived in our household. Last, but by no means least, is the Christchurch earthquake. It's been heartbreaking watching it unfold as I've been glued to the telly. We had a nervous day waiting to hear from friends there, but are relieved to say all of mine are safe and well, if somewhat shaken(pun not intended). Our hearts go out to all those that have lost loved ones, or are waiting to hear news. So, I haven't been blogging, as it all seemed to trivial in light of what poor Christchurch residents have been going through. I do have a few flea market finds and other bits and bobs to show you, so will be gradually updating.

I had a lovely coffee with a few friends this morning and received a gorgeous Aromatherapy Company Orange and Jasmine diffusion set, yummy. It was wrapped in interfacing, a trick from my florist friend, and looked gorgeous and simplistic with a lovely ribbon. I also received these GORGEOUS biscuit cutters, bought off etsy(not technically fleamarket, but thought you'd like to see). They came all the way from the US and I just love their red handles. They look perfect in my kitchen.  Of course they came beautifully wrapped, tied with the cutest bias binding and a handmade tag.

I've gotten some neat ideas for wrapping lately, following this previous blog. Here is a list of my favourites items for wrapping

- Children's books

- Atlas

- Interfacing

- Sewing patterns... thanks Megan for generously sending me some!

- Magazines... check out this tutorial for making gift bags, thanks to frugaldownunder

- Brown paper and twine

- Bias binding/ribbon

Enjoy your afternoon, hope you're having a lovely one.

flea market finds

This Cath Kidston photo inspired me to buy one of this weeks purchases, a red dish rack...

I love the coloured dish racks... now I just need the gorgeous coloured cutlery(photo on right)

Here's my 50c dish rack

and a vintage first aid tin for 50c

I got the following items from a lovely seller at my local car boot sale... all for $10!

The cutest old annuals, full of gorgeous pictures!

A very sweet old chocolate tin

Beautiful old plates... I broke my favourite crown ducal recently, I forgot I'd popped it in my nappy bag after an antenatal morning tea, and heard it smash as I dropped my bag :(

Here's a close up of the 'Tintin' style one, love it!

I also got some really cute clothes for Poppet.  It's been a pretty successful week for bargain hunting.  Seems I have the old addiction back.

To see more of what others have scored this week, pop over the Sophie's.

See you back here soon

Flea Market Finds...

Apparently, 'we really don't need anymore blankets'... but I couldn't resist. All three cost me $8 in total, from a couple of different garage sales.  I wanted them for craft fabrics, but now they're home I'm not sure I can part with them, let alone cut them up.  The colours are PERFECT in Poppet's room.

I also stopped in at my local Saturday market for a few plants, my garden needed a colour injection.  Mum has been telling me all summer that I should sprinkle some cosmos seeds, she's right.  I bought a couple of white cosmos plants, they look amazing, wish I got a few more.  I'll happily let them drop their seeds for next summer.

Hope you had a lovely weekend.  To see more flea market finds, pop over here.

Beautiful Bunting

Here's the bunting I said I'd make from my flea market find a few weeks back.  I sew while Poppet has her afternoon sleep.  This took a while to finish, as I kept forgetting to measure the space above Poppet's cot, so I couldn't sew the binding on. I didn't dare creep back in once she was asleep!  I'm really pleased with the result and can't wait to make some more.  I love the antique embroidery, probably from the 20's, going by the style of the ladies outfits and hair. The colours all tie in really well too.  .

Here is the tray cloth it all started with....

Enjoy your afternoon,

Poppet's new teddy....

Look what arrived for Poppet.  Isn't she gorgeous?  She's been very, VERY popular.  My cousin Mel made her, she's so clever.  She also made her cot quilt, shown here.

I love the colours and her cute wee shoes!  Thanks Mel xxx

Score!

Woohoo.... I've wanted one of these cheese dishes for ages!  It was in a bin of plastic containers at my favourite op shop.  I popped in quickly this morning on our way to SPACE, as we were having a very organised morning and managed to get out the house super early.  This would have to be one of my favourite finds for quite some time.  I would have preferred it in red, though lets not be picky, I'm still VERY pleased with it!

I also got this gorgeous retro sheet, thought it could be cute for bibs.

A sweet vintage children's book, very cute pictures.

I recognized this one.  We received a first birthday invitation with this on the cover, it's still on my dresser, as I loved it.  It's caption read 'getting ready for the party', how perfect!

Love this one too

A cute piece of shabby chic style floral flannelette
