I set myself a wee challenge with this dress... to use only materials I already had, no quick trips to spotlight, not even for buttons. I bought the vintage sheets a while back from my favourite local op shop. The day I wanted to start, I had no time to go to fabric store for lining, I was stretching the wait for lunch/nap time as it was by popping into my local op shop. But, when I spied the gorgeous yellow fabric at the oppy, I couldn't believe my luck and got started as soon as Poppet was put to bed, with the new idea to get it finished with whatever I had on hand. I won the vintage buttons a while back in a blog giveaway, the ric rac was found in my trimmings tin and added as a last minute idea, I love it. When my gran passed away, I inherited all her cottons. Mum was told 'she'll never need to buy another reel of cotton'. It's so true!!! I'm always astounded to find the perfect colour match, and this dress was no exception.
Now we just need some sunshine...(would have been good for the photos too)
Sarah

ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty. You are soooooo inspiring :-) I wish I could make something that sweet.
ReplyDeleteLast Sunday I blogged about an owl I made as a gift. I only used fabric from preloved clothing, freecycled bottons and a piece of felt I had at home. It cost me $1.25 to make - 5 hrs of my time (because I'm not skilled). I felt so proud of my achievement and for using recycled stuff from home.
That is just a divine dress. Love the colours, buttons, ric rac - everything!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabric and the dress is extra sweet.
