I would have absolutely LOVED a pregnant Barbie doll! What a brilliant, brilliant idea... in fact I'd still love one. I wonder if they ever sold in New Zealand? I only discovered them yesterday, reading this blog. I did a wee google search and found loads of images, including some kind of gruesome pregnant doll. I also discovered that it was not actually Barbie, but her friend Midge(other brands have also done preg dolls)that was pregnant, that they were somewhat controversial and that they also came with red hair and freckles! Coming from a long line of redheads myself (although I'm blonde) I have a soft spot for them, and would also have loved one of these dolls. Isn't this pregnancy shot great? Great lighting Midge. She obviously didn't suffer from fluid retention.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to flip your tummy after birth and have it back to it's former self?
I can't wait to buy Poppet her first Barbie, though I want her to be much older and actually looking forward to getting one. My first one was 'exercise barbie' and she was for my 8th birthday. I remember the ads on TV and really, really wanting her. I loved her.

What are they trying to say about redheads!!
ReplyDeleteI remember my first barbie, she was redheaded, but no pregnant. I think sshe was a fiary...

I so agree on the tummy bit. If only we could just flip it around. My 1st one was a tropical barbie & she had the loveliest long hair. Of course I decided to give her a haircut one day. Biggest.Regret.Ever.
ReplyDeleteI never got a Barbie, my family thought it would be funny to get me a Cindy.... as my name is Cyndi... yeah nah, not so funny...
ReplyDeleteBut she was pretty cool as she came with a hang-glider.
I'd love a pregnant barbie, but would add varicose veins with a sharpie :)
Aww, come on! What is wrong with these people, a pregnant barbie? For goodness sakes, the worst thing I'd hear from all this is when a child starts to ask why barbie got pregnant! :)
ReplyDeleteSo? lie to them and tell them a stork for God's sake!
DeleteI only had a Cindy and a Jem (who had suspiciously huge feet), but my friend had all the barbie gear and dolls and a Ken, we played with them for hours and hours. My PC side is keeping my daughter away from them for as long as possible, but I think if she does get into them, I will be getting into it too!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely unappropiate! If someone bought this for my daughter I would burn it. Barbie makers should be ashamed!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with it! Get over it!
DeleteSince when is pregnancy inappropriate? Pregnancy is a VERY beautiful thing. It is up to the parent to teach the child right from wrong and when the right time to have a baby would be. It is actually a great learning tool for a child if you plan it out right. Have Ken and Barbie get married then have them talk about wanting to have a baby and POOF prego barbie! I think its a great idea.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFULLY SAID-THANK YOU!
DeleteI the pregnant barbie doll. Its still in the box, never been open. I love it. I don't see anything wrong with having a pregnant barbie.
ReplyDeleteI used to have the redhead pregnant barbie doll! And that was like 9 yrs ago. I read that they don't sell them anymore but having a pregnant barbie doll and a baby was so much fun.
ReplyDeletei love the idea of this barbie,i had one when i was little and loved it,wish i could get one for my daughter she would love it
