I'm super excited about my bargain 'Designer' cushions! I've seen similar screen printed, doily cushions at a local gallery for huge amounts of money. I spotted the place mats at my local spotlight store, a pack of two for $15. I was immediately drawn to the colour and design, and got more excited as I realised I could easily turn them into cushions, they're already backed. All that is required is a little unpicking, enough to fit stuffing through. I did this along the seam that had a label, so I could remove it. The front is stiffened with interfacing, which bonded the front of cushion to back, so I pushed my hand gently between the two layers of fabric to separate(as in photo). Stuff directly with fill, it needs to be quite full to smooth out the stiffened front. Hand stitch closed and run a top stitch along edge, to match the other top stitched sides. It was a bit tricky doing this as cushion is full at this point. You could hand stitch, though I wanted it finished pronto, so did by machine.
I'll be linking up to ourcreativespaces, if you want to check out more creations.
